Gisele crawling!

mood: happyhappy
music: whirring fans, sleeping baby

Gisele is making pretty good efforts at crawling lately! She needs motivation though. One of the best motivators we have found is to lie on the mattress on the floor, and pretend to type (or whack) on Gisele's keyboard (It's a normal PC keyboard with the cable cut off). When she sees us having so much fun whacking the keyboard, she wants to come over and whack it too, and that can motivate her to crawl :) The other motivator is a newspaper. Something that we give so much attention to must be VERY important, and baby needs to play with it too.

The other day she was cralwing around on top of the bed. I had read that babies are aware of drops, and don't deliberately roll off things (although they often roll off by accident). I decided to test this out, by allowing Gisele to crawl to the edge of the bed. She stood there at the edge for a minute, admiring the view, and then decided it would be a good idea to crawl off the edge! I was ready to catch her, but she still took me by surprise. She crawled straight off as if there was more bed in front of her, falling onto her chest when her hand didn't land on anything.

She is also quite skilled in the use of a walker. She must have used it a lot at Heidi's house. Sometimes she will sit and play with the built-in toys (such as the ball that you can spin with a grabbing action). But when she decides to look further, things can get ugly. We've now become acutely aware of anything up to 1 metre off the floor that might look appealing to a baby, such as items on the coffee table, the headphone cable in front of the computer, and the plastic that hangs down from the side of the dining table. If she gets close to any of these she goes crazy, trying to get as much fun in as possible before we rescue whatever it is she has decided to grab.

Another item she likes is the foot-pedal bin in the living room. She sees us putting things into it, and she thinks it must be very important, since we always close it and don't let her look inside. But whenever she tries to get close she just ends up chasing it around, when the walker's bumper pushes it away :) Poor baby.

Lesley's mum and sister are back here again, so we finally get a break :) Life is good.

Hi Brian & Lesley
Paula sent me the link to see the photos of Gisele, really enjopyed looking at them, thanks. She reminds me very much of you Brian. We have the same 2 cardboard books I saw in the photos, Bedtime and another one. They were my children's and now the grandchildren enjoy them. Sorry we didn't see you when you were in Melbourne life is very busy for us both. We are just back from running our Adelaide to Melbourne bike ride.
Nice to see you use the photo of your family that we took in Singapore.
